One-on-one tutoring Individual volunteer tutors meet with a learner three hours a week for six months to provide instruction in one or more of the following areas: math, writing, reading, and/or English. Small Classes Laubach Way to English classes on four or more distinct skill levels for beginning English literacy learners,multi-level conversation, reading, writing and conversation and citizenship classes, Multi-level math classes
Tutor Training Volunteer trainers train tutors to use the core curriculum materials - Laubach Way to English and Laubach way to Reading. An introduction to supplementary materials is also included. Another vital component of the training is to raise volunteer tutorsÕ awareness of the distinctive aspects and sensitive nature of teaching adults basic literacy and language skills.
Trainer Training Ongoing training is provided for all volunteer tutor trainers.
Computer Literacy Lab Computer-assisted literacy instruction using English literacy software and multi-sensory reading software. Other classes include introduction to keyboarding, spelling and basic word processing. Open entry-open exit. Ð sub under writing class
IMPACT-Parents and Children Together, An Even Start Family Literacy Program Comprehensive program services include adult literacy instruction, early childhood development activities, parenting skills, training, home visits and referrals to other community agencies. |
