Dear Neighbors,
As we start to receive our COVID stimulus payments, please consider donating all or part of it to the Peer Leader Navigator Client Emergency Fund if you find yourself not needing the extra support. Money in this fund goes directly to Anchorage families served by ALP’s Peer Leader Navigator program, who don’t qualify for stimulus payments and whose immediate needs aren’t being met through any existing programs.
The Peer Leader Navigator (PLN) Program was started in 2013 with the mission to break down barriers to healthcare and increase access to important public health information for underrepresented communities in Anchorage. This need has only grown since the pandemic.
Through the PLN Client Emergency Fund, families working with PLNs can receive up to $500 to cover one-time urgent needs. The most common requests are to cover utility bills and transportation costs like gas and bus passes, internet and phone service, and necessities for children like winter clothes. Each request is reviewed by a group of PLNs, who also follow up with families receiving funds to connect them with longer-term solutions like job training and financial literacy programs as needed.
The PLN program has served more than 1,300 people in Anchorage since September 2020.
Thank you for supporting and strengthening our community.
